JUNIOR ENGLISH COURSES

Our Junior Courses are open to students aged from approximately nine to twelve years of age. The aim of the course is to consolidate the basic understanding of English achieved during previous English study, and to improve and develop the student's command of the structure, vocabulary and use of the language.

The text and supplementary materials are designed to be interesting and relevant to children in this age group. The learning process is accelerated through action games, word games, songs and other activities which foster multi-sensory learning.

The fundamental tense structure of English is thoroughly covered during the course, and at the same time students are encouraged to see language learning as a challenging and exciting experience.

Junior Course Methodology

The Junior Course is based on the understanding that children at this age learn in a variety of ways, some of which are quite different from adults. Language is presented through concrete situations and objects taken from the child's world; while at the same time students are introduced to the idea of language as a system.

Children at this age still learn through doing, so we encourage children to internalize new language by acting, playing games drawing and colouring and chanting and singing songs. The Course recognizes the need for young students to constantly revise and recycle the language they have learnt.

Teachers at King's College are very much aware that children need praise and encouragement, and need to feel a sense of progress and achievement.
